Golf Tip # 3TAKING GOLF LESSONS AND IMPROVING YOUR GAMENever Miss a Single Tip. Subscribe to my Newsletter and get the Tips by email. Improving your golf game is a very rewarding experience and as one professional stated when asked why he seemed to enjoy the game so much, "I do enjoy the game more than a lot of players; but if you think about it, I play better than most!!” One thing to think about when it comes to the game of golf is that only perfect practice makes perfect!! You can spend your time practicing but if you are not working on the things you should be, your game could actually get worse. Remember practice makes permanent!! I really encourage students to think about their goals --- are they realistic? --- how much time do you have to play and practice? Instruction is needed to help you identify areas that need improvement and insure that you are going about your practice in the right way! Choose a Professional that is knowledgeable and has a good track record. You should be comfortable talking to him or her and be able to ask questions. You must learn to trust what you professional is telling you and truly understand what your changes are and why they are so important to you!!! Remember to keep the idea of progress --- not perfection --- close to you. Swing problems can be like a physical illness --- some changes can happen quickly but others can be tougher to overcome. Be committed to the process --- it may take some time --- and there will be ups and downs along the way. If your changes do happen quickly --- and that is possible --- it’s a gift!! When a touring professional works with a swing coach --- a change usually takes between one to two years to complete --- and they are the most gifted and talented golfers on the planet!!! So, try not to be discouraged when that change you are working on takes some time. Work with your instructor on other parts of your game too-- putting, chipping, pitching, sand, course management and strategy. Some of those changes can be a bit quicker also. Think about this----If your game improved by one shot in all of these areas and one or two with your full swing---that would be a total of 7 shots!!!! Most importantly, always remember to have some fun along the way. Success in this game comes when we truly learn to enjoy the journey!!!!! Randy Brown
